The purpose of this site is to document and present some of my (mis)adventures in restoring antiques, what I learn along the way, where I fail and where I succeed.
Growing up, I spent many days with my mother shopping in various antique stores across the eastern seaboard but also watching my father, an expert woodworker and a bit of a tightwad, do the impossible with what he had available and without spending much money.
From the two of them, I’ve began collecting antiques. The problem is, antiques aren’t cheap. The nicer, pristine stuff is high dollar and ripe for the retired baby boomers with nothing else going on to scoop up. That leaves me with the scraps – rusted, rotted, broken, scraps.
From those scraps I attempt to rehabilitate and restore my way to a first class antique collection.

Restoration on a Shoestring 
HI, not sure if you are still refinishing, but by your post showing your beautifully refinished spool cabinet, i am hoping you can answer a question for me. I also am trying to refinish a spool cabinet, much like yours. I cannot figure out where to start disassembling it. It is put together so well, i don’t want to completely demolish it! Can you give me any pointers?
